
So the rumors have turned out to be true
once again as the Xperia ZR, which surfaced online last month, has now
been officially announced by the Japanese electronics giant.
Before jumping to the specifications, let’s highlight the key feature of the smartphone. The Sony Xperia ZR
gets IP55 and IP58 certification, which means that the smartphone can
be submerged in to 1.5 meters of water for 30 minutes, which makes it
more rugged than the Xperia Z, which is IP55 and IP57 certified, and can
be submerged under water till 1 meter for 30 minutes at a stretch.
The Sony Xperia ZR comes with a 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4
Pro CPU pared with 2GB of RAM under the hood, and for graphics, gets an
Adreno 320 GPU. The smart phone sports a 4.6-inch display with a
resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels, amounting to a pixel density of 323
pixels per inch.

For shutterbugs, there’s a 13 megapixel primary camera, which features the much-touted Exmor RS sensor. Running on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, the Xperia ZR gets 8GB of internal storage, which can be expanded by up to 32GB using a micro-SD card.
Weighing at around 140 grams, the Sony Xperia ZR
is fairly thick at 10.4 mm. Housing a 2,300 mAh battery, the Xperia
gets 4G LTE, NFC and 3G for connectivity, along with the other usual set
of connectivity options like Bluetooth and Wi-Fi.
The Sony Xperia ZR is available in Black and white color options, but there is still no word about the pricing and availability of the smart phone, and it is listed as “coming soon”.
