Samsung Officially Announces Galaxy Mega 5.8 And 6.3, Coming in May.


The rumors of two new monstrous devices were looming in the air since last week, and today, laying all these rumors to rest, the South Korean electronics giant, Samsung has announced the Galaxy Mega 5.8 and Galaxy Mega 6.3 phablets,
where the numbers indicate the screen size of the device. Both the new devices are targeted at the mid-range segment and will certainly be a cheaper alternative to Samsung’s flagship phablet, the Galaxy Note 2.

Starting with the Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3, the massive 6.3-inch display on the device gets a 720p resolution and the phablet is powered by a dual-core Exynos 5250 processor clocking at 1.7GHz along with 1.5GB of RAM. Running on Android 4.2 Jelly Bean, the Galaxy Mega 6.3 will come in 8/16GB internal storage options, which can be expanded by up to 32GB using a micro-SD card.  

At the back, the Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3 gets an 8 megapixel camera while at he front, there is a 1.9 megapixel camera for video calling. The phablet will feature the goodness of Samsung’s TouchWiz UI and various Samsung-specific features like Multi Window and Air View.

Apart from the usual connectivity options, the Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3 gets NFC and an IR Blaster as well, which will allow it to be used as a remote control. The phablet gets a 3,200mAH battery to keep the device up for long.

Coming to the Samsung Galaxy Mega 5.8, the phablet gets powered by the same Exynos processor, but with a lower, 1.4GHz clock speed and 1.5GB of RAM. The 5.8-inch display on the phablet has a resolution of 960 x 540 pixels and gets 8GB of internal storage, along with a micro-SD card slot for storage expansion.

Running on Android 4.2 Jelly Bean with TouchWiz UI on top, the Galaxy Mega 5.8 features the same set of cameras as the Galaxy Mega 6.3, but houses a lighter, 2,600mAh battery.

Both the devices will go on sale next month in Europe and Russia, but there is no word on the pricing of either of the device till now. Samsung says that the phablets will be rolled out in other markets gradually, and we expect India to be on that list as well.
