Samsung has refreshed it’s Galaxy Tab lineup and announced the 7-inch Galaxy Tab 3, which is the successor to the the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2. The new Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 will sit right below the 8-inch Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.0 in Samsung’s tablet lineup.
Sadly, the tablet doesn’t offer anything significant over it’s predecessor and runs on the older, Android 4.1 Jelly Bean with Samsung’s TouchWiz UI on top. Powered by a 1.2GHz dual-core processor paired with 1GB of RAM, the Samsung Galaxy Tab 3
comes in 8/16GB of internal storage options. The storage space on the
tablet can be expanded by up to 64GB using a micro-SD card.
At the back, the new tablet gets a 3
megapixel shooter, while at the front, it gets a 1.3 megapixel camera,
which is the same as the Galaxy Tab 2. The tablet also packs-in a
4,000mAh battery.
The 7-inch Galaxy Tab 3
retains the display resolution of it’s predecessor, which is just 1024 x
600 pixels, and by no means can be termed as satisfactory. At just 169
pixels per inch, the tablet trails to it’s competition, like the Nexus
7, which offers a much better display.
All the hardware gets packed inside a
111.1 x 188.0 x 9.9 mm package and the tablet weighs-in at 302 grams for
the Wi-Fi variant and 306 grams for the Wi-Fi + 3G variant.
According to Samsung, the Wi-Fi only
variant will go on sale sometime in May, while the Wi-Fi + 3G variant of
the Galaxy Tab 3 will go on sale by the month of June.
The company hasn’t yet disclosed the details on the pricing and availability of the Galaxy Tab 3, but says that the tablet will be rolled out gradually
