Last month, some reports suggested that Sony might be working on an affordable quad-core smartphone with a MediaTek chip inside. Since then, we have been looking for some more information on the matter and finally, more news is coming in about the rumored device.
A latest report by Phone Arena
suggests that the MediaTek powered Sony smartphone will be named as the
Sony C3, and the leaked image shows that the design of the smartphone is
inspired from Sony’s flagship smartphone, the Xperia Z.
MediaTek powered quad-core smartphones
are currently a hot property in the Indian and Chinese markets, and
various manufacturers have released their devices with MediaTek’s MT6589
quad-core chip. Sony is also expected to release the C3 with the same
MediaTek processor, but some rumors have suggested that Sony might use
the updated, 1.5GHz MT6589T inside the Sony C3.
One advantage which the Sony C3 might have over other Indian and Chinese smartphones is the build quality
and design, which can be seen in the leaked image, as the Sony C3 looks
much more premium and well-built than some of the budget quad-core smartphones available in the market like the Micromax Canvas HD, Zopo Libero HD, etc.
Previous rumors have suggested that the
MediaTek-powered smartphone from Sony will sport a 5-inch screen and
will be released sometime in the third quarter of this year. It
seems Sony is keen to tap on the emerging markets with the upcoming
smartphone.
